A Winning Team!

One of the last ingredients in the Recipe for a Living Your Dream Life is assembling a dream team.  You don’t need to do everything by yourself.  Everybody needs help once in awhile, and for sure if you go it alone, it will be a lot more challenging than if you ask for help.  This team should consist of people who will support you on your journey, providing a sounding board, advice, resources or just an ear.

When recruiting members,  make it easy for them to say yes to your request.  To do that you must first know what you need, understand what they have to offer you (skills, resources, etc) and then be specific in your request.  When you clearly express your needs, your team member will easily be able to determine how they can help.  Remember, most people want to help, but they don’t want to commit to something vague.  Think about it.  If a friend came to you and asked for assistance, wouldn’t you want to know what they need and how you can help?

Start talking about your dream.   Figure out what resources are available to you, and how they can assist you. Share your dream with enthusiasm allowing them to feel your passion as you give voice to your desires.  Then make the request for assistance.  Don’t be discouraged if you’re turned down.  It happens, and it may have nothing to do with you.  Go ahead and ask why you were denied.  It might be a good learning opportunity for future requests.  If they can’t help, ask if they can refer you to someone who can.  This is the way to start building your network.   Assuming your request was granted, be mindful and follow up with a thank-you note and/or phone call.

Remember, the people you need to help you make your dream come true are everywhere, all you have to do is ask!
