Up until now you’ve been getting all the ingredients ready, mixing them together, but all the ingredients in the world won’t make your dream come true unless you take action. This is where the rubber hits the road. And if you’re not careful, the road will hit right back.
You see, if you look at your dream as a whole, it might be so overwhelming that you won’t know where to start. So you won’t. And your dream will remain a dream, never coming to fruition. You know the old joke “How do you eat and elephant?” “One bite a time!” is the smart response. You’d choke otherwise.
How can you keep from choking the life out of your dreams? Take it one step at a time. Break down the dream into projects, and each project into specific actions. Create projects that can be completed in one month or less, especially in the early stages so you can produce results and keep your enthusiasm high.
In order to ensure your projects are clear and concise, I suggest following the S.M.A.R.T. formula:
Specific – You must clearlyknow what you want to achieve (remember, small bites!).
Measurable – You need to be able to measure if you’ve met your goal or not.
Achievable – Is it possible to attain your goal?
Realistic – Do you have access to the necessary resources, skills etc to attain your goal?
Time-bound – Can it be accomplished within 1 month or less? or within a specific time?
Once you’ve gotten your projects in line, start taking action on the items you can, and identify where you’ll need help from others. You don’t have to do it alone. There are people out there willing to help you accomplish your dreams, but you first need to know what you need. The next step is to ASK!
A little on that tomorrow…
